Living Donor Evaluation Process
1. Screening
Submit the donor health history form

2. Assessment
If becoming a living liver donor is right for you, you will move on to the second step of the evaluation. You may have some or all of these tests
-
Pulmonary function test
-
Psychological assessment
-
Additional heart tests (e.g., echocardiogram, exercise stress test)
-
Consultations for weight loss
-
Liver biopsy
Additionally, you will meet with a social worker, an independent medical team, and an anesthesiologist. Depending on your results, you may need to see other healthcare professionals and undergo additional tests.

3. Approval
After your evaluation is done, your donor team will review all your test results and will talk to you about whether donating a part of your liver is right for you.

You may be approved to become a liver donor if:
-
All required tests and consultations have been completed.
-
You have met and spoken with all members of the donor team involved in your evaluation.
Donor safety is UHN's first priority. They will not compromise the donor assessment process even if the liver recipient is very sick.
